Dream Dictionary
This is a basic list of common symbols that can be used as a starting point in learning how symbolism works on the subconscious level. More details and context comes out of the interpretations themselves.
Animals: habits or habitual ways of thinking; this isnt necessarily negative, some habits are necessary such as buckling your seatbelt every time you get in your car. Some animals also represent other things:
fish represent spiritual knowledge, and even though the animals of the whale family including dolphins are mammals, they still have a spiritual aspect because they swim like fish in the sea
horses represent will
birds that fly represent subconscious thoughts
snakes represent wisdom or creative energy
Some animals will be spirit guides introducing themselves depending on the other symbolism present.
Books: stored knowledge
Church: place where spiritual knowledge is found
Computer: brain/ reasoning/logic processing
Death: change. Guns, knives (unless used on food), cannons, all weapons are tools for change, except the sword which is a symbol for karma.
Dragon: conscious ego
Food: knowledge, honey is whole knowledge.
Hospital: place for healing
Houses: including igloos, teepees, pueblos, etc. represent the mind as a whole. Various parts of the mind get divided up depending on other symbols in the dream.
Large buildings: universal mind, ( collective consciousness)
Liquids: conscious life experience, except milk which is whole knowledge, and alcohol which is a will buster.
Monster: unknown aspect of self, very often children in developmental stages will dream of monsters as new parts of themselves are emerging and they are feeling overwhelmed by these unknown aspects of themselves.
Motorcycle: balance, this includes bicycles, scooters, skates, etc.
Music: harmony, musical instruments are tools for harmony, dance is an expression of harmony, ballet is balance and harmony.
People: aspects of the self; same sex are aspects of conscious self, opposite sex are aspects of subconscious aspects, authority figures are superconscious (higher consciousness) aspects. Young people depending on the age are aspects which are new and in development. Military or police are aspects of discipline; health professionals are healing aspects; some people in authority, especially if they are of a spiritual nature, can be guides introducing themselves.
Plant life: trees, grass, shrubs, etc., represent subconscious experience
School: place in mind where learning occurs
Scissors : tools for change
Sex: harmony
Sleeping: assimilating knowledge
Telephone: also typewriter, writing tools, word processor, telegraph, etc. represent communication.
Vehicles: are vehicles! These represent the physical body and depending on your culture that can be a sled, a car, a truck, a rickshaw, they all mean the same. Large vehicles such as buses or trains represent organizational bodies or vehicles, such as governments or religions.
